NSoJ Restaurant Review: A hearty and energetic start to the day at this cosy outlet

The mutton is cooked to perfection, so tender that is slides right off the bone and melts in your mouth

Lincoln Gastro Co. is a small but cosy restaurant located on Balanjaneya Temple Road, just off New BEL Road. The Asian-Continental fusion cuisine, though interesting, may come off as too eclectic and confused. The serving staff is quick to recommend the in-house specials. The appetiser, Taco Trio, is actually pulled off quite nicely, including three distinct toppings on three distinct bases – lamb on a phulka, chicken ghee roast on a coin parotta and a fried chicken makhani on a kameeri kulcha. The appetiser did not amaze, but it deserves points for creativity. The dish also comes with vegetarian toppings, and serves two people comfortably.

Service

For the main course, Lincoln Gastro Pub offers biryani – veg, chicken or mutton. The biryani is lightly spiced and aromatic. It definitely beats the unnecessarily spicy biryanis that seem to be the norm across the city. The mutton is cooked to perfection, so tender that is slides right off the bone and melts in your mouth. The total bill for an appetiser and a main course dish was about Rs 800. The portions were large enough to satisfy a healthy appetite, but the prices may yet be a little steep. The menu is also filled with other delightful sounding dishes, including crispy lotus stem, bharatiya quesadilla and chermoula rubbed chicken. The ambience, with kooky wall displays and alternative rock playing almost unnoticeably playing in the background, fails to communicate a clear, assimilating purpose to patrons. The friendly staff and prompt service, however is definitely a plus.

Ambience

The restaurant is new, just over a month and a half, and seems promising. It definitely deserves a visit. There are plans to expand the menu to include breakfast items, by mid-April or May. A small negative point is that the restaurant does not offer parking or valet service to patrons. But it is located on the accessible New BEL Road, on which several eateries have emerged in the last five to seven years. Cards are accepted as of now, and soon all e-wallets including Paytm will also be made available as payment options. Point of interest – The owner of the restaurant named it after Abraham Lincoln, who is a figure he looks up to.
